AN ASSORTMENT OF SNAPSHOTS FROM OUR FIRST EVENT AT ART HOUSE
What an amazing afternoon and evening! On October 21st we hosted two events prior to officially opening our doors at Art House. We wanted to let people get in to see the raw space, mingle and get excited about the potential for this project.
The Preview from 4-7pm attracted about 30 people, from painters to chainsaw artists, electronics hobbyists to musicians. We were very busy showing people around and explaining the two membership models. It was great to hear all the excitement and interest in the space and we're sure it won't be long before we're full!
A big attraction was the Penticton Museum and the space they are leasing for their SmithWorks project; an 18-month series of workshops featuring opportunities to learn about traditional artisanal crafts. Their first course, starting November 9th will be restoring a 35 ft traditional war canoe.
At 7pm, the evening shifted into a hub of creative expression with people setting up easels, getting comfy with sketchbooks, writing in notebooks and having deep conversations. Over 20 people milled around and filled our common atrium space with vibrant energy and creativity.
The Art Experiment is all about creating things in a collective environment. The brainchild of local artist & teacher, Kindrie Grove, this event happens monthly, alternating between her studio on Main Street and Art House Penticton. We also enjoyed delicious food by resident artist, Derrie Selles who also has a catering business (Mobile Morsels) and delightful jazz music from an eight piece band who call themselves the 'Monday Night Jazz Friends'. If this sounds like an event you wish you'd attended - make sure you're on our mailing list for next time!
What a way to kick off our new building!!
Getting things up and running always takes longer than expected. But we are really happy to be able to say that Art House Penticton will open in November 2013.
Are you keen to see inside the space?
We're hosting two events on Monday, October 21st.
From 4-7pm you can drop in and see the raw space. There will be information on hand about Art House, we can tour you around the space and maybe you'll decide that you want to be there too!
Then from 7-9pm, stay on for an evening called 'The Art Experiment: Eat - Create - Sip' It's a night of open creative play. Bring something you're working on, a project, an art piece, a piece of writing... or start something new. Working alongside others brings out unexpected results and ideas. You'll also be able to enjoy live music, wine and nibblies.
The cost to partake in the Art Experiment is $15 to cover wine & food costs and to raise a little money for the musicians.
Thanks to you all for your patience! We're almost there and it's really exciting.
Just a few final administrative tidbits and Penticton's professional Creative Space will be birthed into existence. We are confident that November 1st we'll be open for our committed artists to start moving in.
There are still 2 artists studios available! They can be rented individually ($300) or shared with another artist ($200 per artist). Contact us if you'd like a viewing!
Words in this blog come from several folks! You might be reading entries by Jessie Dunlop, an artist and our Art Prompt project Champion. You might also be hearing from Jennifer or Nicholas Vincent. We're co-founders of Cowork Penticton and co-conspirators on multiple other projects.
